Angels in the Rockies: The Tradition Continues

The Banff Rockies are thrilled to announce the 2nd annual Angelman's hockey game at the Sulphur Mountain Lookout Arena. This year, the event promises to be even more spectacular as the Rockies face off against the two-time defending SICHL champion, Havana Revolution.

Last year's inaugural event was a resounding success, raising significant funds and awareness for Angelman Syndrome. The luxury boxes were filled with "angels," and the Rockies donned their specially designed Angelman's jerseys, with all profits from sales going towards Angelman's research. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Sweet Pete, who dropped the ceremonial puck at center ice, lighting up the arena with his infectious smile and spirit.

You may recall that Angelman Syndrome affects approximately 1 in 20,000 people. This genetic disorder leads to delayed development, issues with speech and balance, intellectual disability, and sometimes seizures, which often begin between the ages of 2 and 3 years. Individuals with Angelman Syndrome are frequently non-verbal and may learn to walk. While there is currently no cure, we have learned that the disorder is typically caused by problems with a gene on chromosome 15 known as the ubiquitin protein ligase E3A (UBE3A) gene.

This year, the Rockies are determined to build on that success. The game will be held tomorrow evening, March 13, 2025, and once again, the luxury boxes will be filled with angels. The Rockies will be wearing their Angelman's jerseys, and so will Sweet Pete, who will return to drop the ceremonial puck. The team is hoping to raise even more money this year to support research and find a cure for Angelman Syndrome. Thank you to all who donated last year to such a worthy cause. The Angelman’s families are forever grateful.

Peter is making tremendous strides. I’m sure there won’t be a dry eye in the house as Pete plans to walk out to drop that first puck with the support of his family and his support belt. Amazing progress from such an incredible person.

The number 1 will never be worn by another Rockies player as that is Peter’s number. The Rockies hope to lift that number to the rafters with Sweet Pete on the jersey, just like his.

The Havana Revolution, known for their formidable skills and championship pedigree, will provide a thrilling challenge for the Rockies. Fans can expect an exciting game filled with high-energy plays and heartwarming moments. The event is not just about hockey; it's about coming together as a community to support a worthy cause and celebrate the incredible individuals and families affected by Angelman Syndrome.
