21/22 2nd Round - SICHL Playoffs

2nd round preview for the SICHL
by Chris Fekete | May 17, 2022, 2:46 PM ET

1. Fredericton Express vs 7. Edmonton Supersonics

Notable Injuries: Lindgren 85% and Connor Murphy 47% for the Express. Chiarot 90% for the Supersonics.

The Express beat the Supersonics all 3 times this season, although it was earlier in the season. I don't see a scenario in which the Supersonics come out of this series advancing to the Conference Finals. The Express are too deep of a team and with Vasilevskiy, that makes matters more difficult.

Prediction: Express in 5

3. Nova Scotia Schooners vs 5. Acadia Grizzly Bears

Notable Injuries: Rask 78% for Schooners and Barron 82% for Grizzly Bears.

This could be a very interesting series. Acadia is playing some of its best hockey and they have had the Schooners number this year, beating them in 3 out of 4 matches. However, this is the playoffs and thats a different beast in itself. This isn't a matchup that suits Eric. Guy has OWNED him in the playoffs whenever they have faced off against each other. Will this year be any different? Is this the end for Eric?

Prediction: Schooners in 7

1. Havana Revolution vs 4. Chicago Tigers

Notable Injuries: Tierney at 89% for Havana, Tinordi 94% for Tigers.

In the 3 matches this season, Havana won 2 out of 3 but they were all very close games. I could see that continuing in this series. Havana are odds-on favorites to win this series but the Tigers love being the underdogs and will give Jeff and his Revolution squad all they can handle. However, in the end, I think Havana's depth will be too much for Sheetal and the Tigers to overcome.

Prediction: Revolution in 6

2. St. Louis Spartans vs 3. Reykjavik Riders

Notable Injuries: Frost 91% and Chekhovich 84% for the Spartans. R.Murphy 86% for the Riders,

The Spartans won 2 out of 3 meetings this season, although they haven't played since day 80 so we can't put too much value in that, but still, 2 out of 3 is still 2 out of 3. The last time these teams met in the postseason was 2018-2019 when the Riders swept the Spartans 4-0. Times have changed though and these are 2 different clubs. I feel like it is going to come down to goaltending: Fleury vs Varlamov. We all know what Fleury can do, but can Varlamov outduel him? This could be the 2nd best matchup in this round (1st goes to NS/ACA) and could go either way.

Prediction: Riders in 7
