Wheat Kings make some early movesby Doug Karnes | December 6, 2018, 5:57 PM ET
The Wheat Kings made a couple of trades today:
GM Doug Karnes said he was thrilled with the run the team had last year (losing in the Continental Cup Final) but needed to make some moves to cut salary and infuse some young talent.
"Today, in two separate deals, we traded Tyler Johnson, Troy Brouwer and Bobby Ryan; three very good players," said Karnes. "In exchange, we received Colton Sissons, Greg McKegg, Marcus Sorensen, Tim Schaller and a 3rd round pick in 2019."
As a result of these deals, the Wheat Kings will save over $15 million in salary.
After years of going for it all, culminating in last year's Cup Final appearance, Karnes has stated that it is time to rebuild the team.
