SICHL Expansion Newsby Phil Lesage | August 10, 2018, 12:21 AM ET
Live from the convention center at the Key Arena, Phil Lesage proudly announced that Seattle will be joining SICHL for the 18/19 season, and will be called the Seattle Grunge.
"Next to the birth of my kids, this is the most exciting day of my life," said Lesage. "For the past few years, I have been working non-stop towards bringing a professional hockey team to the great city of Seattle. As a young man growing up in Seattle, I was heavily into the Grunge subculture, and even today I am still a huge fan of the music aka, Seattle Sound. In honor of my passion for hockey and Grunge, the two will be fused together, and the team will be named the Seattle Grunge."
Continued Lesage "Over the past few months I have been working with league management to develop a logo that is fitting to the city. It was not an easy task but many thanks to Mike Franceschini for his creativity and coming up with a sweet design."
The next few months will require a lot of heavy lifting as Lesage builds the front office and prepares for the expansion draft, the entry draft, and then free agency.
"I would like like to thank Mark, Mike, and Gary for all their support in turning this pipe dream into reality."
