SICHL - All-Injury All-Star Teamby Eric Schneider | January 17, 2018, 4:06 PM ET
Evgeni Malkin and Alexander Ovechkin together again? Besties Shea Weber and Ryan Suter re-united at last? Yes please! Behold, the current who's-who of injured players -- gone, but not forgotten. *Note for those pre-disposed to indignation: I took the easy route and went by position and OV. Defence is stacked, so for the 73OV tie-breaker I went by reputation -- apologies to Emelin and Cole, but Green and Rielly have you beat on pedigree.
The moral of the story? If your name isn’t “Corey,” then you have no right to complain – Quebec is dramatically over-represented with five injured players listed. Brandon and Philadelphia are next with three apiece.
Notably absent from this team? Acadia, Banff, Boston, Brno, Chicago, Havana, Kansas City, Montreal, Ottawa, and St. Louis – I curse all of you for your health and fortitude! Or, more realistically in a couple cases, I mock you for having teams too crappy to make a list like this regardless of injuries.
Lastly, and I’m sure everyone’s dying to know: how does this team stack up against the rest of the league? That’s a solid roster! A bit weak down the right side, goalies are so-so, but center and defensive depth more than makes up for those shortcomings. Using our super-secret, proprietary algorithm, the All-Injury All-Star team would have been 7th overall in the pre-season power rankings. They’d boast the 2nd-best forwards and by far the best defence, but their goaltending is below-average at 18th.
There you have it! A dynasty in the making! Let's see if the health-bug bites and ruins their chances.
