Defensive Reinforcements

by Ryan Torrie | January 5, 2018, 5:20 PM ET

What started out as an enquiry into a player, ended with four new players joining the Shamrocks and several picks and prospects leaving. Over the course of the day, GM Ryan Torrie made four trades and brought in two key defencemen in the process.

"We sent an email to a GM this morning, inquring on the status of a player and the next thing we know, we have traded two prospects, a roster player and several draft picks. Not sure how it all happened but I am happy with the result."

The first trade of the day saw the Shamrocks ship defenceman Trevor Van Riemsdyk and a pick to Toronto for a draft pick in return. This deal opened up a spot on the defence.

The second deal saw the Shamrocks trade prospect Christian Jaros for minor leaguer Dmytro Timashov. The third deal brought in another minor leaguer, Paul Carey from Nova Scotia. Going back the other way was a draft pick. Carey and Timashov are expected to have an immediate impact in Glasgow.

The final deal of the afternoon saw the acquistion of former Shamrock defenceman, Tobias Enstrom and Jake Gardiner from Havana. Enstrom had been acquired in a previous trade with Vancouver earlier in the day. Leaving the organization was prospect Adam Brooks and several draft picks.

"Overall, I like what we acommplished and hope that Gardiner and Enstrom are able to make our backend stronger," GM Torrie.
