SICHL XX Revolution Opening Nightby Che Guevara | November 4, 2017, 12:48 PM ET
After last year’s first round fail against the Spartans thing in Havana have been quite sombre. The start of the 2017/18, however, has brought some excitement back to the city. Well received by the fans was GM Prozeller’s appearance at the SICHL SUMM17 where he made few picks but meaningful ones.
The Revolution have not changed significantly from the end of last season, most of the key pieces are back. Connor McDavid, Tyler Seguin, Leon Draisaitl will be counted on heavily to bring a scoring punch. Cody Eakin, Marcus Kruger and Elias Lindholm are key defensive forward roles. On the backend Brent Burns, Jake Muzzin and a newcomer in Alex Edler will be counted on to move the puck away from now cemented No 1 goaltender Pekka Rinne.
Playoffs are obviously an expectation for this club again, although with the massive amount of money dumped into the hands of Free Agents by other World Conference teams Havana may no longer be considered the far and away front runner they had been before. Speaking of Free Agency GM Prozeller and Co. took their typical stance which was that most if not all Free Agents were “everything but free” as one SICHL analyst put it. They stayed far far away, only signing depth forwards Brian Boyle, Brad Richardson and bringing back Jason Chimera all on one year deals. A full list of who is in and who’s out below.
The Revolution recently announced their new Director of Media Relations being David S Pumpkins. An interesting choice considering the team has a very tumultuous history of Media Relations folks and Pumpkins just doesn’t seem to fit the bill as a quiet man of few words. In his first press conference this morning prior to opening night he was very cagey with his answers. Below you will see a transcript of some back and forth:
Che Guevera – Welcome Mr. Pumpkins, and congratulations on your new role. What are your thoughts on the atmosphere in Havana after the loss last year?
David S Pumpkins - We didn’t lose last year maaaaan.
CG – Against the Spartans in the playoffs?
DSP – Spartans are cool man, you can’t lose to coooool!
CG – Alright never mind, can you tell us what is the plan for to fill the 6th defensive spot? You have Chychrun and Marincin, or are you still seeking outside help?
DSP – The best defense is a good offense riiiight?
CG – Right but you still need someone to play in that sixth spot?
DSP – Well these two guys play pretty well (motions over to his two dancing skeletons)
CG – Who are those guys?
DSP – They’re with me!
CG – Alright you don’t seem to be answering any of my questions here….why did you accept this job? What makes you qualified?
DSP – I’m David S Pumpkins maaaan
CG – I know but why are you Media Relations Director for Havana? Do you know anything about hockey?
DSP – Offff course! Hockey is a game that you play, and Havana is a city that we’re in.
CG – This is pointless you should be fired!
DSP – Fire? But that would melt the ice? You’re craaaazy maaan
CG – Ugghh I said fired…never mind I think I’ve got what I need….
DSP – Any Questions??
CG – Yes! Tons…but it appears I won’t be getting any answers!
Revolution management didn’t have anything to add before the start of the season stating that Mr. Pumpkins seemed to provide the media with enough information. The Revolution are about to begin their 8th quest for the Continental Cup this evening when they take on the Dublin Shamrocks.
Doors open at 7pm but starting at 2pm there are several events planned including a short player meet and greet. Rum tasting and inspired cocktails provided by Havana Club, Cigar rolling with experts from Cohiba and a colossal amount of live music. The REVOLUTION lounge and Cohiba Cigar bar are offering 2-1 draft Cristal. There will also be a special tribute to Castro just prior to door opening.
