Baron's Looking to the Futureby Ogie Oglethorpe | March 10, 2017, 12:05 PM ET
The Baron's playoff chase is officially over. Unrestricted free agents Justin Abdelkader and Jack Johnson were traded to Philadelphia for prospects and a pick. Brno GM Bob Mayhugh stated that he was extrememly unhappy with the way the team played during the middle of the season when they dropped out of playoff contention. Mayhugh decided that it was time to make some deals to pull in players that can hopefully help in the future. Trading started earlier in the week when Lars Eller and a 4th round pick were sent to Las Vegas for center Artem Anisimov. Anisimov has two years left on his deal and made it possible to move UFA Abdelkader. Today, Mayhugh pulled the trigger on Abdelkader and Johnson shipping them off to Philly for the Fire Ants 3rd round pick in 2018, defensive prospect Slater Koekkoek, forward Travis Boyd, and forward Daniel Zaar. "The prospects we recieved have a good chance of playing in Brno in the next couple of years. "Boyd and Koekkoek both show a lot potential. Zaar may be a little more of a stretch, but we are hopping for some productivity out of him" said Mayhugh. Dealing with Norm in Philly, is always a little nerveracking. I just want to make sure I still have my wallet in my pocket when I'm done. With the trade deadline getting nearer, are the Barons done selling?
