by Corey Graham | January 20, 2016, 5:57 PM ET

The Quebec Canons have acquired defenceman Jared Cowen and a 4th round draft pick in the 2016 draft from the Ottawa Slammers general manager Corey Graham announced Wednesday. In exchange, the Canons have sent Ottawa forward Johan Franzen and prospect Erik Cernak.

Cowen, 23, has three assists and eight penalty minutes in 28 games with the Slammers this season. The former 1st round pick in the SICHL Draft has played 207games with the Slammers over four seasons in his SICHL career.

"We would like to thank Johan for his time here in Quebec this season. He took a leap signing with us this offseason and we are sorry it didn't work out here. We wish him the best in Ottawa," explained Graham

"We are excited to add Jared to our mix, he is a big body and hopefully continue to develop into a shut down defender as we transition our team."

Cowen is expected to join the Oil Canons later today, and hopes to make it in time for the game with Reykjavik.
