Ants Send All 2015 Draft Picks To World Juinorsby Brother Lee Love | December 21, 2015, 11:38 AM ET
With the World Juniors about to begin in Helsinki, the news that every single player chosen by the Fire Ants in the latest entry draft may participate has pundits scratching their heads.
Each year, a handful of prospects manage to eek their way onto the WJC rosters, but the tournament usually serves to illustrate The Ants lack of depth. Last year, five Ants represented their countries and was seen as an unusually positive aberration. This year however, nine prospects have thus far made the cut, including every player picked in the 2015 draft plus Sweden's Marcus Pettersson, chosen in the 2nd round of the 2014 draft.
"I just picked a bunch of European kids and it worked out fine," said Ants GM Norm Donovan, "these little Swedes and Finns and stuff will gain some valuable experience as they lose to real hockey players from North America. If they think I'm giving them a bonus though they can forget it."
Although not all of the rosters have yet been finalized, here is a list of the Ants who are still with their teams in Helsinki:
Dan Vladar (CZE)
Aleksi Saarela (FIN)
Jonne Tammela (FIN)
Joni Tuulola (FIN)
Timo Meier (SUI)
Marcus Pettersson (SWE)
Sergei Boikov (RUS)
Paul Bittner (USA)
William Borgen (USA)
