Defending Champs Complete Shocking Trade With Colonials

by Michel Bourassa | December 16, 2014, 5:14 PM ET

With the defending champs off to a slow start GM Michel Bourassa pulled the trigger on a deal sending long time Falcons Zach Parise and Joe Thornton (and a 3rd round pick in 2016)  to the Boston Colonials in exchange for forwards Frans Nielsen, Brandon Saad and prospect Kasperi Kapanen as well as Boston's 1st in 2016 and 5th in 2015.

The move is considered to be the first of many for the Falcons who look to retool on the fly.

I want to be perfectly clear. This is not a rebuild! stated a fired up Bourassa Our goal is to defend our Title.

Thornton and Parise are not going to be replaced by the pieces they got from the Colonials but GM Bourassa seemed very happy with the return. It is rumoured that Kapanen was very high on their draft list this past June.

The Falcons have been struggling so far this season and are currently 2 points out of a playoff spot in the extremely compettive Canadian Conference.
