Admirals Welcome Many New Faces

by Wendal Spark | November 4, 2011, 9:31 PM ET

The Admirals bolstered their ranks in all positions. A weakness last season was depth; injuries cost them some games and overall just looking to improve.

Key New Faces:

Chris Pronger: Veteran defenseman brought in for a strong season. Mentoring Brent Burns was one of the main reasons the GM felt like bringing him in. With a defensive unit featuring Pronger, Timmonen, Burns, Gleason, Hannan, McCable, Quincey, Corvo, Carkner brings a talented group on the back end to guard over a young goaltending duo.

Mikael Samuelsson: Depth on the wings. Samuelsson brings an offensive aspect to the wing hoping to improve his numbers from last year.

Sergei Bobrovsky: Admirals paid a hefty price to bring in a rookie goalie. After losing 3 1st round picks for #1 Goalie Jimmy Howard last off season with their former GM; As the Admirals had shipped  out the potential of James Reimer, they wanted to pick up another young goalie with potential. Planning on running with a Bobrovsky/Howard split, makes them one of the most expensive duos in the league. Former 1st rounde Rick DiPietro's Admirals future could be in question with a move like this.

Resigned - Returning Admirals:

Mario Bliznak: Prospect brought back for center depth. Bought last year for some cash.

David Hale: Defensive depth should injuries occur.
Chris Thorburn: Matched offer sheet, Thorburn brings good energy to the bottom 6.
Patrick Sharp: Key resigning, the very versatile and useful Sharp hopes to improve his numbers from last year as he approaches UFA status.
Tim Gleason: Rumors of him holding out may/may not be true, but he's back for another season. Some say he could be the odd man out this season, but there is going to be competition before the beginning of the season starts.
Scott Hannan: Brought back on a 1 year deal, hoping to get a bit farther in the playoffs this season. Great lockeroom guy.
Depth signings and minor league probabilities:
One weakness the Admirals had last season was no depth in the minors. Young players playing too much minutes, our GM wanted to install a strong backbone for players coming up to the pros.

Chris Mason: Looks to be bound for the minors fighting for time with DiPietro and Khudobin. Constant competition and good goaltending depth incase any injuries occur to the young pro duo.

Adam Mair: Hardworking winger should fill Brad May's departure in the minors.

Anssi Salmela: 4 years Sebastien Piche: 4 years Justin Taylor: 4 years Robert Mayer: 4 years Linus Klasen: 4 years Matt Dalton: 4 years Adam Huxley: 4 years Antoine Roussel: 4 years Ryan Schnell: 4 years Michael Davies: 4 years Michael Neal: 4 years Harry Young: 4 years Zach Cohen: 2 years Justin Hodgman: 2 years Luke Gazdic: 4 years Michael Swift: 4 years Brayden Irwin: 3 years Aaron Voros: 3 years Trent Whitfield: 1 year

This will be GMKL's  first full season with the Admirals and with a history of big moves in his short career, many can expect an exciting season from the Admirals. Word around the street is phone calls are coming in already about some moves.
