Huskies take it in a close one
Eric Schneider - Schooners in 7
Ugh. No offence to my peers in OTT/CGY/EDM, but I was dreading this match-up. Don's had my number in both our away games, so it seems like my only hope will be to trade games and let my home ice advantage decide it. This could and should be a rough series.
Gary Graves - Huskies in 7
Dogteam in 7, goals against on this team is super solid and special teams are even. Doughty will be back mid series.
Guy Flaming - Schooners in 6
Nova Scotia is built to win NOW but Whitehorse is on fire down the stretch with 10 straight victories. On paper the Huskies don't match the depth of the Schooners and yet somehow they won the season series 2-1 including the two most recent games. Could be a long series but Bobrovsky is on the case.
Henry Skey - Schooners in 7
I know Eric hates this matchup - the mad scientist/tweeter of the SICHL never goes down without a fight and has a stud blueline. Doughty is out for another few days, but will it be enough?
Ian Constable - Huskies in 6
Jeff Prozeller - Schooners in 7
Could be one of the better first round series.
Kasim Husain - Schooners in 5
The battle of two teams whose forward groups always strike me as underrated by the geniuses(TM) at SIM headquarters. I believe the Schooners' blend of experience and quality depth makes this series play out a lot less closely than you might think to see the matchup on paper.
Kirk MacRae - Schooners in 7
This one is tough, I think it'll go the distance with the edge going to the older team.
Mark MacRae - Schooners in 5
Despite the Huskies recent success versus the Schooners, I think Nova Scotia is just too stacked not to move on to the second round.
Matt Burch - Schooners in 7
Doughty is going to come back soon, so this could be a good one.
Matt MacInnis - Schooners in 7
What a 4v5 series. Like Eric to squeeze out a win with GM Don focused on the success of all of his minor league teams.
Michael Oram - Schooners in 7
Mike Franceschini - Schooners in 6
Eric represents the new wave of SICHL GMs. He has taken a clinical approach to building and tweaking his team into a consistent threat. The Huskies represent old school GMing at its finest, building consistently deep teams that have been among the best the league over the years. The other difference between the two is that the Huskies are never quite aggressive enough to push themselves over the top, preferring to perpetually play for now AND the future. This hesitation resulted in some moves early in the season that almost cost them the playoffs before they righted the ship in the final month. Another early playoff loss may force a change in approach for either team, but for the interest of the league, I'd like to see a Huskies team go all in.
Ryan Torrie - Schooners in 6
Schooners could have finished 2nd in the conference, but opted for the harder match up so they could face the Norsemen in the 2nd round.
Sean Gallagher - Schooners in 5
This is the Battle of the Bearded Wonder vs the Wonder Why He Can't Grow A Beard GMs.If that was really the criteria, I'd be taking Whitehorse. Since it's not, I'm going with the Schooners and their talent, depth, talent and depth. Also, their talent. And depth.
Sheetal Khera - Huskies in 5
As much as I like the Schooners I think the Huskies have this series.
Tom Baker - Huskies in 6
