And what better place to do it than the Power Rankings, Weeks 15 & 16? The Krunch turn it up when they needed to and are now in a three way tie for the final playoff spot in the World Conference. Doug and Eric fall back down to earth a bit, Sid is back and even Banff won a few games! Regular write ups won't do, it's time for some Disney (and Disney-esque) tunes! Let's go!
No, Gary didn't rub a magic lamp summoning a genie, but he's overcome the Revolution, Golden Bears and our longtime number 1 champ to acquire the top spot in the rankings. It reminds me of "A Whole New World" sung by Lea Salonga and Brad Kane (Jasmine and Aladdin) in the movie Aladdin. "A whole new world! A new fantastic point of view. No one to tell us no, or where to go, or say we're only dreaming! A whole new world! A dazzling place I never knew, but when I'm way up here (in 1st place), it's crystal clear, that now I'm in a whole new world with you!
Since Jeff is one of the most caring, non-trash talking GMs who never tweets about other team's misfortunes, or toots his own horn, his song is "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" sung by Elton John in the movie The Lion King. And caaaaaan youuuuu feel the love tonight? It is where we are, it's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer that we got this far. And caaaaaaan youuuuu feeeeel the loooooove tonight? How it's laid to rest , it's enough to make kings and vagabonds believe the very best.
Since Doug is one of the few GMs that don't prescribe to the notion that draft picks are the only way to win, many of us dismiss him as a crazy person, a savage. Sort of like...I've got it! Doug's song is "Colors of the Wind" sung by Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas) in the movie Pocahontas. You think I'm an ignore savage (by not drafting many players) and you've been so many places, I guess it must be so, but still I cannot see, if the savage one is me, how can there be so much that you don't know (ie, I spent 3 months as the top team on the rankings), You don't know.
Since Guy is always just trying to help others, and has a lot to give with ZERO other intentions, I'm reminded of "Poor Unfortunate Souls", sung by Pat Carroll (Ursula) in the movie The Little Mermaid. My dear, sweet child (fellow GMs), that's what I do! It's what I live for (acquire a billion good players), to help unfortunate merfolk (other GMs) like yourself. Poor souls with no else to turn to (trade with).
It's not officially Disney, but it was inspired by such. Dustin is never to be trusted, and relies on the roll of the dice to win...and he usually wins. His song is "Die House" sung by Alana Bridgewater (Mr. King Dice) in the game Cuphead. I'''''m Mr. King Dice, I'm the game'st in the land, I never play nice, I'm the devil's right hand man. I can't let you past, cause you ain't done everything, bring me contracts, come on bring em' to the king.
Norm is the champion, and it's his way or no way at all. Not only is his team the Fire Ants, but he's on fire. His song is "Hellfire" sung by Tony Jay (Judge Frollo) in the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. God have mercy on her, God have mercy on me, but she (the SICHL Continental Cup) will be mine or she (the SICHL Continental Cup) will burn!
Matt drafts a generational talent seemingly out of nowhere, then also drafts players in the 3rd/4th/5th round (Benn, Karlsson) that somehow turn out to be superstars. It's day in, day out. Sun rise, sun set. It's never ending. Matt's song is "The Circle of Life" sung by Lebo M. and Carmen Twillie in the movie The Lion King. From the day we arrive on the planet (join the SICHL), and blinking, step into the sun. There'e more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done (draft better players than there are seemingly better players out there).
Underrated, old school and containing the only father-son connection in the SICHL, Tom's song is "1 2 1" sung by Tevin Campbell in the movie A Goofy Movie. So don't be in a hurry, think before you count us out, you don't have to worry, I won't ever let you drown, nothing's gona stop us now.
Based on Don's mustache leaving us too soon, and the frigid temperatures that teams endure when travelling to Whitehorse, Don's song is "Let it Go" sung by Idina Menzel (Elsa). Let it go, let it go! Can't hold it back anymore, let it go, let it goooo Turn away and slam the door. I don't care what they're going to say (we're going to say we have no idea what Don's up to), Let the storm rage on, the cold never bothered me anyway.
Eric's tale is one of the highest highs, the lowest lows. The most beautiful accomplishments, and the most beastly of streaks. Eric's song, therefore, is "Beauty and the Beast" sung by Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts) in the movie Beauty and the Beast. Tale as old as time, true as it can be, barely even friends, then somebody bends (Tavares) unexpectedly. Just a little change (dropping six spots), small to say the least, both a little scared, neither one prepared, Beauty (1st half of the season) and the beast (2nd half of the season).
To be the man, you've gotta beat the man. Despite being squished into the most competitive division year after year, Pat remains firm and teams that win usually have to go through the Slammers. Pat's song is "I'll Make a Man Out of You" sung by Donny Osmond (Li Shang) in the movie Mulan. Let's get down to business, to defeat the Huns (every other SICHL team). Did they send me daughters (bad players), when I asked for sons (18 Erik Karlssons). You're the saddest bunch I ever met, but you can bet before we're through, Mister, I'll make a man out of you.
Mike's been lurking the shadows, but he's the one pulling the strings day in and day out. If you're not keeping an eye on the Supersonics, you should be. Mufasa is dead (spoilers), long live the king! Mike's song is "Be Prepared" sung by Jim Cummings and Jeremy Irons (Scar) in the movie the Lion King. So prepare for a chance of a lifetime (the Summit), be prepared for sensational news (another summit for the 25th anniversary??), a shining new era (Mike's team being good again), it's tiptoeing nearer. (All other GMS) and where do we feature? (Mike) Just listen to teacher (the guy who programs the entire site).
Is there anything Sean can't do? Emerging as one of the most popular, interesting, manly GMs from the Summit, Sean's song is "Gaston" sung by Richard White (Gaston) in the movie The Beauty and the Beast. No one's slick as Gaston (Sean) No one's quick as Gaston (Sean) No one's neck's as incredibly thick as Gaston (Sean) for there' no man (GM) in town half as manly, perfect a pure paragon. You can ask any Sheetal, Kirk or Henry, And they'll tell you whose team they prefer to be on!
Sylvain's team is on the verge of something great. Terror's the least he can do. He's also got one of my favorite lineups, and this song is one of my all time favorite animated songs, so it totally fits (shoehorned in!). It's not Disney, but it sounds like it should be. Sylvain's song is "In the Dark of the Night" sung by Jim Cummings (Rasputin) in the movie Anastasia. In the dark of the night I was tossing and turning, and the nightmare I had (being out of the playoffs) was as bad as can be - it scared me out of my wits - a corpse falling to bits! Then I opened my eyes and the nightmare was ME!
Matt has seen a lot of ups and downs, but still dreams of the playoffs. He knows what it's like, he's been there before, even if it seems dream like at the moment. His song is "Once Upon a Dream" sung by Mary Costa and Bill Shirley (princess Aurora and Prince Philip) in the movie Sleeping Beauty. I know you (playoff spot), I walked with you (made the playoffs before) once upon a dream. I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam (damnit, Disney songs rule). And I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem (no playoff spot is secure until 82 games are played), but if I know you, I know what you'll do, You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream.
Ryan is one of the most active GMs, and can beat anybody...and then he disappears into the night, seemingly content with staying low. Ryan knows how to survive...much like the song "Secret of Survival" sung by a bunch of weasels (don't read too much into that) in the movie The Wild in the Willows. First you see us, then you don't. Now you hear us, now you won't. It's our secret of survival in a very nasty world. Now you feel us, no you can't. Are we real? Perhaps we aren't!
Kirk has a ton of money, was down and out but now is the number 1 team to be feared. He's jumped six spots, went 7-1 in his last 8 games and is now threatening to take away the playoff spot from Sam and Ryan. He's not quite as evil, but Kirk's song is "Cruella De Vil" sung by Bill Lee (Roger Radcliffe) in the movie 101 Dalmatians. Cruella De Vil (Kirk) Cruella De Vil (Kirk) If she (he) doesn't scare you, no evil (not that evil) no evil (again, not that evil) will. To see her (him) is to take a sudden chill (lose your playoff spot), Cruella, Cruella De Vil (Kirk).
Sam is the youngest GM in the SICHL and decided to fast track his expansion team by aggressively signing some big name free agents, and letting loose his young forwards onto the league. It's like Sam can't...wait...to....I know! Sam's song is "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" sung by Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Simba) and Rowan Atkinson (Zazu) in the movie The Lion King. I'm gonna be a mighty king, so enemies beware! Well, I've never seen a king of beasts (Championship Contender) with quite so little hair (points on the table).
Mark's team may not be championship calibre this year, but don't disrespect him. He's got friends...on the other side (ie Mike, the code master). He's also got the best radio/stage voice in the league. Mark's song is Friends on the Other Side sung by Keith David (great voice, Dr. Facilier) in the movie The Princess and the Frog. Don't you disrespect me, little man. Don't you derogate or deride, you're in my world now, not your world, and I got friends (Mike) on the other side. There's an echo gentlemen. Just a little something we have here in Louisiana (SICHL), a little parlor tricky, don't worry (I would recommend worrying).
Corey's Canons have gone the distance...in the wrong direction. The season is slipping through his fingers and he's dropping like a stone. Can he turn it around? Can he...go the distance the other way? His song is "Go the Distance" sung by Roger Bart (Hercules) in the movie Hercules. I have often dreamed of a far off place (playoffs), where a hero's welcome would be waiting for me. Where the crows would cheer, when they see my face, and a voice keeps saying this is where I'm meant to be. I'll be there someday, I can go the distance. I will find my way if I can be strong, I know every mile would be worth my while. When I go tthe distance, I'll be right where I belong.
Bob's not worried. Why would he be? He's not too concerned about making the playoffs this year. He's just happy to be back in the SICHL and causing random havoc by winning the odd game here and there. Bob's song is "Hakuna Matata" sung by Nathan Lane (Timon) and Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa) in the movie The Lion King. It means no worries! For the rest of your days! It's our problem-free philosophy, Hakuna Matata! Why...when he (Bob) was a young warthog (GM), When I (Bob) was a young wart-HOOOOOOOOOG (GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGMMMM), very nice! Thanks!
Michael may have traded off a majority of his best players, but do you ever see him panic? Or worry? Michael's song is "Why Should I worry" sung by Billy Joel (Dodger) in the movie Oliver and Company. One minute I'm in Central Park (a good team in the World Conference), then I'm down on Delancey Street (not a good team in the World Conference), from Bow'ry to St. Marks, There's a syncopated beat. Why should I worry? Why should I care? It's just bebopulation, and I got street savoire faire. (I had no idea the lyrics of this song were so bizarre. What the hell is bebopulation???)
Chris is down and out a little. All he can see is the Ivory tower that is the Canadian Playoff Picture. Chris needs a miracle...or...a genie? His song is "Prince Ali" sung by Robin Williams (Genie) in the movie Aladdin. Make way! Here he comes! Ring bells! Bang the drums! Are you gonna love this guy! Prince Ali (Chris) Fabulous he, Ali Ababwa (Chris Baker)!
Sheetal doesn't let a lot to get to him. He's been around for a while, is eager to help others and just looks for the good things in life. His song, obviously, is "The Bare Necessities" sung by Phil Harris and Bruce Reitherman in the Jungle Book. Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities, forget about your worries and your strife (Turris injury), I mean the bare necessities, old mother nature's recipes, that brings the bare necessities of life.
Bryce is down at the moment, but he's been beating teams when they didn't see it coming. They deserved it though. It's not his fault that they trusted a snake. His song is the "Cell Block Tango" sung by the Six Merry Murderesses in the movie Chicago (100% not a Disney movie, 100% don't care). They had it coming! They had it coming! They had it coming all along. Cause if they used us, and they abused us, how could you tell us that we were wrong? If you'd have been there, if you'd have seen it, I betcha you would have done the same! (tried to beat good teams).
Kasim's been in a rebuild for while, but he's not panicking. Why would he? Life is great down here, he's acquiring high draft picks, hoarding lots of money and not getting into any crazy bidding wars. Kasim's song is "Under the Sea" sung by Samuel E. Wright (Sebastian) in the movie The Little Mermaid. The seaweed is always greener, in somebody else's lake, you dream about going up there (over bidding on a player to make the playoffs), but that is a big mistake. Just look at the world around you, right here on the ocean floor (Canada Conference basement) such wonderful things surround you (like Kasim's newborn, congrats buddy!!!) what more is you lookin' for?
Ian is new, bright eyed and bushy tailed, obsessed with other people's treasures that lie above. Their song is "Part of Your World" sung by Ariel (Jody Benson) in the movie The Little Mermaid. Look at this stuff, (1st round picks), isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think my collection's complete? Would you think I'm the girl (male GM), the girl (male GM) who has everything? I wanna be where the people (top teams) are, I wanna see, wanna see them dancing (winning). Wish I could be...part of that world!
Henry's Hamburglars have a long way to go, banking on draft picks and a lot of hope...but lofty expectations. Their Disney song is "When You Wish Upon a Star" sung by Jiminy Cricket (Cliff Edwards) in the movie Pinocchio. "When you wish upon a star, makes you no difference who you are, anything your heart desires (a competitive team) will come to you, if your heart is in your dream.
