I mean, we haven't even done the first round of UFA bidding. It would be improper to do the pre-season power rankings this early. Downright loopy. Insane, even.
....Have you met me?
OF COURSE WE'RE DOING THE PRE-SEASON POWER RANKINGS EARLY, HOW COULD WE NOT?
With the anticipation of the upcoming season, and all of us basking in the post-Summit glow, I couldn't help myself. Keep in mind that we haven't even STARTED Free Agency, so these rankings are about as loose as they can get. Hell, there have even been a few trades since we did these rankings, but that's not going to stop me. Join myself, Eric and more than half the crew LIVE from Mike's beautiful house in Edmonton, Alberta as we dig into draft decisions, the greatest weekend ever and...THE FUTURE! LET'S GO!
No surprises here, Guy's team on paper is the best. Among the best offense, the best defense and rock solid goaltending. He may not be the reigning champion, but much like Taz in ECW "Beat him if you can, survive if he lets you"
Not so fast, everybody complaining about the rankings so far, Don is not too far behind Guy and Eric and is solidly in 3rd. The Mad Scientist from up north knows his stuff and is a hell of a guy. And LOOK at that defense corps, if you're not jealous, you 'aint right in the head.
Was there a busier GM than Dustin over the weekend? Not only did he get himself out of debt, but somehow managed to re-scure a 1st round pick AND trade half his team. And he's STILL in the top 5 for the rankings, how do you like that? (Answer I DON'T!)
Alright, next up we certainly can't have Denver since they're still rebuilding and...(checks notes) hooooly crap, Sam has been busy. His draft picks are now certifiably stars and Sam wheeled and dealed like no other expansion team in memory. Sam is a force in the World Conference and will unquestionably be a playoff team this year. Sam, teach me!
Tom's ranking is a bit unfair. He's VERY top heavy, but a great top offense and starting 4. He may want an upgrade in goaltending to secure a playoff spot, but beyond depth, the Cougars look pretty good. Check out Eric Staal's re-rate!
