Weeks 13,14,15 - The Playoff Race is On!

We've got good teams doing well, not-so-good teams doing not-so-good, we've got good rosters underperforming, bad rosters overperforming...so, a typical SICHL season. What else is new? How about a new entry into the top 5? How about an injury that could shake the foundation of the World Conference? How about Henry jinxing teams he's chasing? It's all here in the power rankings. Let's go!

1
Whitehorse Huskies
Previous: 1 Trend: --
Sorry Don, you get the number one spot again. It was either you, or Pat's Slammers and you have less injuries. You're both 8-2 in your last 10, your goal differentials are hilariously similar, you both score a ton and don't let teams score. Another difference between you and Pat - YOU TRADED YOUR STARTING GOALIE AND SOMEHOW GOT BETTER. Somebody needs to start interrogating Don immediately, he clearly found the secret ingredient to the Sim's formula. Grunka, lunka...
2
Ottawa Slammers
Previous: 3 Trend: up 1
I just realized Pat changed his colors to match the real life Senators. That makes sense. Also, Slammers and Senators both start with S. Red. S. REDS! PAT IS A COMMUNIST! Officers, arrest him so that he doesn't continue to RAVAGE the entire league. How dominant are Pat's Slammers this year? His longest losing streak is two. TWO. He's gone nearly 50 days since back to back losses. Huh, Brandon seems to have his number though...weird. (Henry frantically phones Doug looking for answers).
3
Vancouver Island Norsemen
Previous: 2 Trend: down 1
Matt was getting pretty big for his Twitter britches and the Sim listened, punishing him with back to back shutout losses to the Colonials and the Supersonics. The ship will likely right itself soon, unfortunately for the rest of us.
4
Boston Colonials
Previous: 8 Trend: up 4
I swear, the Colonials were in last place at one point in the rankings. Well, how do you like them now? Shane Doan is inexplicably leading the league in points. The Colonials have the SECOND highest goal differential, behind only the mighty Slammers. They're 8-2 in their last 10. They're mostly injury free. Their special teams are respectable. They just shutout the Norsemen and Schooners in back to back games. Join the Colony, lads, it's only a matter of time.
5
Havana Revolution
Previous: 9 Trend: up 4
BWAHAHAHA, Jeff only has one regulation loss in his last ten and it was to ME! HIS ULTIMATE RIVAL, THE HAMBURGLARS!! Oh man, is this ever sweet. I was going to Tweet something about it, but doing it here is even better. Other than that, Jeff's smelly team is having a stelar season - near the top of the conference, superstars everywhere (imagine Brent Burns' re-rate NEXT year).
6
Philadelphia Fire Ants
Previous: 5 Trend: down 1
Ferengi Rule of Acquisition Number 76 - Every once in a while, declare peace. It confuses the hell out of your enemies. Norm has remained mostly quiet and humble this year, resulting in a confused World Conference. That hasn't stopped Norm from stomping the competition. He beats everybody, save for when he doesn't, which doesn't last long. Only ONE time this year has Norm lost back to back regulation games. That's the kind of attention to excellence that yields a number 1 spot in a Conference. What the hell, why isn't Norm higher than Havana? (Remember, I'm trying to confuse my enemies...)
7
Calgary Mustangs
Previous: 7 Trend: --
Calgary is a super streaky team, so it makes perfect sense to have them at spot number 7 when they were at spot number 7 three weeks ago. Aside from a 5 game losing streak in the middle of the season, the Mustangs have had a great year. They don't lose a lot and when they do, it's usually not by much. Kane is starting to pick it up a little bit, but his -7 rating is downright confusing. His FIVE game tying goals aren't. Dio Paneuf has been a bit of a dumpster fire - 81 PIMS and a minus 23 on a team where most players are a plus is pretty harmful. Bench him!!
8
Acadia Golden Bears
Previous: 11 Trend: up 3
Guy has eluded his normal level of superiority this year, but what kind of team do you have when a "disappointing" year means 8th in the power rankings this deep into the year? Guy is currently on a 7-3 run, has 11 players with 20 or more points and how about Rasmus Ristolainen? 7 power play goals and 34 points for the rookie, thank you very much.
9
Reykjavik Riders
Previous: 12 Trend: up 3
Yandle and Panarin's injuries definitely are going to hurt the Riders...so it makes perfect sense to have him go up a few spots. Huh? 5-0-1 in their last 6, the Riders are starting to hit their stride which really blows for the rest of the division (ie, ME). Looking at his points leaders is kind of funny - top 2 are Faulk and Ekman-Larsson, both with 40+ points and both with 44 penalty minutes. Looking at the rest of his team makes me sick. I want Filip Forsberg and Sean Monahan too!
10
Las Vegas Aces
Previous: 4 Trend: down 6
Apparently going 5-5 will drop you six spots? It will when the top 10 teams are separated by only 10 points and everybody else is winning seemingly every single game. Plus, losing at home to the Millionaires gives me a good excuse to put SOMEBODY down a bit. Dustin's Aces won't be here for long. They're a conference winning type of team. PLUS, Dustin just had a baby girl so give him slack, will ya? CONGRATS!!!!
11
Vancouver Vipers
Previous: 18 Trend: up 7
Speaking of teams making the climb, I'm POSITIVE I had the Vipers near the bottom of the rankings at one point. Well, take a look at em now! Sure, they only have a +5 goal differential and 61 points obviously wouldn't cut it the far superior World Conference, but they jump 7 spots this time with a 7-3 record in their last 10. A few injuries, but none significant. Bryce hasn't had back to back losses in nearly a month. CLEARLY, something is working.
12
Stockholm Cougars
Previous: 13 Trend: up 1
Tom (and me, and the Spartans) are knee deep in a playoff hunt and the Cougars are 1 point up on the climbing Spartans with one game in hand. It's going to be a dogfight for sure - they're virtually identical in a lot of statistics. I like Tom's team slightly better, but they're both fun to watch and are the talk of the World Conference. (I'm trying to be overly positive to jinx both of them. Watch this).
13
St. Louis Spartans
Previous: 20 Trend: up 7
YUP, THE SPARTANS JUMP SEVEN SPOTS AND WILL PROBABLY WIN OUT THE REST OF THEIR GAMES. NO HOPE FOR ANYBODY, WE MIGHT AS WELL ALL GO HOME. I DON'T THINK THEY'LL START LOSING ANYTIME SOON, OR GET ANY INJURIES.
14
London Monarchs
Previous: 6 Trend: down 8
This is a pretty harsh drop - London is 11th in overall actual standings, is 4-5-1 in their last 10...but we all know why they're here. Ovechkin is out for another 32 days. He'll be back for playoffs, assuming the Monarchs will make it. I'm not sure they will. They're a top heavy team without a top now. They've only had 1 win in their last five games and that was against the Millionaires. It sucks too, since they were RED HOT before the injury, including an 8-1-1 run a few weeks back. BUT Michael did confirm his attendance at the Super Summit, so that's a victory in itself.
15
Hamburg Gladiators
Previous: 14 Trend: down 1
Meh. I get Turris back, but I lose to the Express! What's up with that? Big win over the Revolution gives me some semblance of hope. Now if only I could crack special teams...
16
Winnipeg Falcons
Previous: 16 Trend: --
Winnipeg will NOT go away. They've had two lengthy win streaks in the last month and are now only 3 points back of the Schooners for the final playoff spot in the lowly Canadian Conference. Now, if Michel could solve the Penalty Kill...
17
Brandon Wheat Kings
Previous: 19 Trend: up 2
Same with Brandon! BRANDON won't go away either! It's hard to take them seriously when they lose frequently...but they don't lose back to back regulation games frequently. They beat the Slammers, Vipers and Huskies in the last few weeks. Hasn't lost back to back regulation games in about 40 days. I feel like that's my comment about everybody on these rankings, that nobody is losing back to back games. Can everybody please start losing back to back games, please?!?!
18
Nova Scotia Schooners
Previous: 15 Trend: down 3
Ah, there we go. Some mediocrity to make me feel better about my own situation. The Schooners are in a playoff spot, but the trade winds are blowing. The second half has been bizarre to Eric's team - they can't score and can't win and with THAT lineup, they really should be. Will a trade shake things up? Or shake things off?
19
Québec Canons
Previous: 10 Trend: down 9
Ever since their loss to the Aces, the Canons have hit a tailspin and aren't getting out of it anytime soon. One win in the last twenty days will drop you a few spots in the rankings. That's what you get for beating up on the poor, defense-lacking Hamburglars, Corey! Well, at least they have an easy schedule coming up. (Henry looks at Quebec's next few games and sees the Canons are playing the Slammers, Golden Bears and Giant-Killer Millionaires). OK, moving on!
20
Fredericton Express
Previous: 17 Trend: down 3
Booooo!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Mark ruined my lovely win streak with a dominant defensive performance...well, I outshot him nearly 2-1, but he still won. Flashback nightmares of the finals. I'm used to it by now. (Henry checks the Express' last few games). Oh good, that was Mark's only win in his last seven games, I feel so much better.
21
Kansas City Krunch
Previous: 22 Trend: up 1
Kirk is sort of the last of the Krunch-icans in that he's ten points out of a playoff spot, but is he's not really out yet. He's got a respectable goal differential, is 4-4-2 in his last 10 and, in case you forgot, HAS 118 MILLION DOLLARS. 118. I MEAN IF HE OFFERED ME FIFTY, I'd PROBABLY SELL HIM MY ENTIRE TEAM.
22
Edmonton Supersonics
Previous: 23 Trend: up 1
Mike is starting to show some life with his best stretch of the season at 5-3-2. I still cannot understand how Mike's team is this close to the basement - he's got 8 forwards with 70+ SC.He's got 7 defensemen with 80+ DF. He's got an 83 goalie. High Discipline everywhere. Good Centers. A mix of young and old. High Durability. You explain to me how this makes any sense. Mike's team is this year's Norsemen, only with way worse results.
23
Brno Barons
Previous: 25 Trend: up 2
Low on special teams, low on goals and low on keeping the puck out of the net, Bob is in sell mode. How do I know? Well, he told us in a group email. That's not a bad place to be in your first year back, plus he's got some assets to trade. Hell, I'd love to have Chad and Jack Johnson as my foundation for next year.
24
Montréal Millionaires
Previous: 26 Trend: up 2
Hey Kazman, if you could tell me how to shut out the Las Vegas Aces 4-0 o the road, I'd really appreciate it. Seriously, call Kasim's team the giant killers. Here's a list of top teams he's defeated this year: Aces, Monarchs, Mustangs, Fire Ants, Golden Bears. And uh...the Gladiators and the Schooners, but Eric and I are used to being bested by Kasim at this point.
25
Chicago Tigers
Previous: 28 Trend: up 3
Nice rebound from Sheetal, going 3-6-1 in his previous 10, beating the Vipers, Express and Schooners. Not-nice rebound going 0-4-1 in his last 5, but that might be due to injuries more than anything. Orlov is going to get a good re-rate, or at least I thought he would. What kind of NHL regular defensemen gets a 57 DF rating?
26
Toronto Titans
Previous: 24 Trend: down 2
Side note - Eddie Lack seems criminally undervalued with a 68 OV ranking. Another side note - Derrick seems to have vanished. DERRICK ARE YOU OKAY? PLEASE COMMENT BELOW IF YOU ARE READING THIS. Derrick has a billion rating forwards, but they won't do him much good this year. This is a "next year" kind of team.
27
Dublin Shamrocks
Previous: 21 Trend: down 6
Getting Carey Price hasn't exactly turned the Shamrocks' fortunes around. With just 1 win in his last 10 games, Ryan's going to have to weave some magic to make the playoffs. Dan Hamhuis is still 18 days away from returning...do we see another blockbuster?
28
Denver Rapids
Previous: 27 Trend: down 1
Sam's injury list is better than my entire roster - John Gaudreau (MARK! I'd like to bring to your attention an error - we need to change this to Johnny Gaudreau ASAP), Darnell Nurse and Morgan Rielly are all injured at 91 CDN. What does that say for the rest of Sam's lineup? Not much, as he's in last place, but won't be next year. Once he gets some goaltending, he'll be in the playoffs guaranteed.
